Essential Oils for Motion Sickness

You already know that essential oils have a multitude of benefits, but did you know that there are actually ones that can help you feel better when it comes to motion sickness? Feeling nauseated and dizzy is bad enough, but when it’s caused by traveling in a plane, train, car, or boat when all you can basically do is power through is even worse. If you’re prone to motion sickness or you’d like to not even take any chances with it happening, the following essential oils could be a big help.

Peppermint is said to be one essential oil that’s excellent for helping to reduce nausea and ease headaches, so it could be beneficial to use if you’re dealing with motion sickness. The intense mint aroma can also be uplifting which can obviously be a much-appreciated added benefit. Considering it can be rather strong, you won’t need to use much of it at all.

The warm and spicy ginger essential oil could be wonderful for helping with motion sickness. It can be rather strong, so when it comes to the scent, there are many who either love it or loathe it. Considering it is on the strong side, you’re not going to need much of this essential oil to work with.

In addition to possibly helping with motion sickness, Roman Chamomile may also help you feel calm, which can be especially helpful for those who are nervous about traveling (such as while flying or getting on a boat) in addition to having to deal with nausea. It may even help combat insomnia, so for those of you who have trouble sleeping while you travel, Roman Chamomile could be beneficial.

Use
When it comes to using essential oils for motion sickness, there are a few ways you can try to go about it. The first is by putting a drop or two of the essential oil on a cotton ball and bringing it somewhat close to your nose and breathing in without touching your skin. Additionally, you could dilute it with a carrier oil (such as avocado oil) and apply it topically. Once you have the right blend, you could put it onto your stomach and pressure points. It’s best if you do the aforementioned before the motion sickness happens and while you’re on the particular mode of transportation as well.

Keep in mind that, just like standard over-the-counter medicine that you’re familiar with, what works for one person might not work for another, so you’re going to have to keep trying and see what essential oils work for you and your motion sickness. If you’re planning on using one of the aforementioned essential oils while you travel, make sure you do a patch test first and see if it’s an option that works for you before you actually leave for your trip. You don’t want to think you have a solution to find out after that it wasn’t a good fit for you.
