For the Guy Traveling Alone – Vine Vera Reviews

Men traveling all alone enjoy a number of benefits of solo travel, but also come across some challenges. Most of the travel advice for solo travelers cater to women travelers, but men also face all sorts of obstacles and complex situations while they hop around the world. To help men come over their travel issues, Vine Vera brings an insightful list of tips for the guy traveling alone. Remember, it only takes one poor decision to transform the perfect vacation into a nightmare.

Solo Traveler

Tip # 1 – Pack Light
The rule of the thumb is to pack light. As a solo traveler, the last thing you want to do is to have to carry a huge suitcase everywhere you go or take care of your belongings when you would be better off enjoying the local sights and attractions. There is absolutely no reason to carry two pairs of shoes (unless you’re on a business trip). And no one needs to know you wore those jeans yesterday. You will always feel more comfortable and confident if you’re traveling light, and some of that confidence is bound to rub off on the locals around you.

Tip # 2 – Know Your Strengths
Are you someone who prefers to be in the midst of everything? Are you someone who simply must communicate to people around you? Are you more into adventure or would you like to stick to the comfort of a cosmopolitan city? Are you more of a nightlife person, or does sightseeing sound to be a more exciting option? It is essential to know your strengths and stick to them while traveling. Remember, the more comfortable you feel with your surroundings, the more you enjoy things around you.

Tip # 3 – Choose Your Accommodations Wisely
Many solo travelers opt to stay at hostels that have shared rooms. However, some hostel dorms are coed, so you might end up staying in the same room as females. If you prefer an all-make dorm instead, make sure that you call up and check with the manager about the room arrangements available. And if you’re looking to meet new people, it always makes sense to hang out in the common area or in the on-site bar, as these offer the perfect setting for meeting someone new.

Tip # 4 – Blend In
Researching on the local way of life will work wonders helping you blend with the locals. Try to appear relaxed and don’t behave like an outsider. Don’t get deterred by setbacks such as delays at the train station or long queues. If you plan properly, you can easily afford to waste time at a busy hot-spot. Besides, these places are the perfect destinations to strike up a conversation or two.

Tip # 5 – Protect Yourself from Pickpockets
It makes sense to wear pants that have a zipped pocket inside the front pocket. This is the perfect place to keep your valuables. A better alternative is to carry a money belt while traveling.

Tip # 6 – Carry as Few Gadgets as Possible
Gadgets have become indispensable to the modern way of life, but if you’re seriously planning on enjoying your trip, carry as few gadgets as possible. First of all, the more gadgets you have, the more attention you need to pay to them. Secondly, each gadget adds to the weight of your luggage. And finally, the more gadgets you have, the less you learn about the place you visit.

Tip # 7 – Stay in Control
It is easy to lose control while drinking or doing drugs, and you could easily end up broke, lost or worse. It is equally important to understand that risk-taking can bring about an adrenaline rush, but always know your limits. For example, if you have never tried riding a motorbike before, countries like India and Thailand aren’t the places to learn.

Tip # 8 – Taxis
It always makes sense to hire a licensed cab company or make use of online cab apps such as Uber while in a foreign country. They are safer and more secure, and they save you from becoming victim to assault, theft or fraud. Just because you’re a guy doesn’t mean that you’re not at risk.

Tip # 9 – Pack a Good Book and Click Lots of Photographs
A good book can prove to be your best friend while traveling alone. Vine Vera recommends you to look at things like the Kindle reader instead of paperbacks, because it helps you save a lot of weight. It also makes sense to make photography one of the central aspects of your journey. It gives a sense of structure to your day and you are bound to appreciate all those photos once you get back home.

Tip # 10 – Learn to Say “NO”
There are times, particularly in foreigner-fascinated cultures, when the attention that solo travelers get tends to become intense. It is important to learn how to say “no” in the local language. It is equally important to have the local emergency number on speed dial. You most probably won’t need it, but it’s always better to be safe and prepare yourself for the worst.
