Pittsburgh Area Country Clubs

Country club

There are a lot of benefits to joining a country club. Not only do you get to play golf and partake in a whole slew of other activities, but it’s also a chance to network and make new friends. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and the surrounding areas have quite a few country clubs that you may want to look into joining. So how exactly do you narrow down your options? The following three are just a few that you may find to be good choices.

Chartiers Country Club
Chartiers Country Club is a private country club that’s set ten minutes from the downtown area and they offer a multitude of different memberships including the Permanent Golf Membership, Intermediate Golf Membership for those 31 – 39, and the House Membership which allows for dining privileges only. Their 18-hole championship golf course was designed by Willie Park, golf professionals are available, and there is a Pro Shop on site. There is also a beautiful pool to use (with a snack bar), and several dining options which include The Grille at Chartiers, Porch and Veranda, and four fully-stocked bars.

Edgewood Country Club
Located on Churchill Road in Pittsburgh, the Edgewood Country Club was established in 1898 and since then has prided themselves on providing their members with an overall enjoyable experience. It wasn’t until the mid-1920s when the 18-hole championship golf course was designed by Donald Ross. In addition to hosting events, parties, and weddings, the country club also has a swimming pool, tennis courts, and more. The Donald Ross Grille is also on site and has a new outdoor patio that overlooks the greens, however, the restaurant is members-only.

Allegheny Country Club
The Allegheny Country Club was first established in 1895 but opened in its current location in 1902. It offered the first 18-hole golf course in the western part of Pennsylvania, and in addition to golf, you can also play tennis or go swimming. You must receive an invitation to join the country club in order to become a member. Additionally, applicants will need a sponsor and co-sponsor as well as the support of four current members. There are several different memberships to consider.

Take note that it’s a must to read through the website of each country club if you are thinking of becoming a member. This is vital when it comes to dress code and etiquette, such as what you should wear to the country club (especially considering certain attire may be required during certain hours) as well as when and where you can use your cell phone. It’s also best if you take a tour of the facilities before committing to a membership. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask beforehand, even better if it’s a current member who can steer you in the right direction.

With so many options of country clubs to consider in and around Pittsburgh, you certainly have plenty from which to choose, so review all your options carefully and take your time to think about which one could be the best fit for you.
