The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, which is located in Sarasota, was opened by John in 1931 two years after Mable’s death and five years before his own. Since 2000, Florida State University has had governance over the museum which is comprised of 31 individual galleries. From sculptures and drawings to paintings and prints, you’ll find a whole slew of beautiful pieces of art that make up an attraction that you don’t want to miss. Considering a visit? Events
“The Ringling” hosts numerous events throughout the year, including “Ringling Underground” where you’ll find art and live music; it takes place from 8pm to 11pm during certain Thursday evenings. Attending events is a great way to become more informed about the museum not to mention meet new people who have the same interests as you. Programs
You’ll love the many programs that are available at The Ringling. For example, they have Slow Art Day on April 9th where you’re encouraged to take time to really look at, think about, and admire the artwork throughout the museum. Dining
If you’re interested in dining at The Ringling, you’re certainly not going to be short of food options. Looking for a meal? Muse at The Ringling is your best bet as they offer a slew of options on their menu ranging from the Muse Supergreen Salad and Paleo Bison Chile to Burrata Caprese and Beef Short Rib Au Poivre. For more quick and casual options such as hot dogs, salads, and hamburgers, head over to The Banyan Café. Lastly, there’s The Museum Café where you can get pastries, tea, and coffee. Should you desire, you can also have a picnic on the grounds.

Visiting the Museum
Admission costs to get into The Ringling range from free for members and children under six to $25 for an Adult ticket. Discounts are available with certain ID cards. The museum is open every day of the year except on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. Friday through Wednesday they’re open 10am to 5pm and Thursdays they’re open 10am to 8pm.

The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, which is also the state art museum of Florida, is certainly worth a visit. Whether you go by yourself for some alone time, go on a date or with friends, or bring the family and start introducing the kids to art, it can be a fun-filled experience. While you can spend the day there regardless of what the weather is, it’s an especially excellent option for when it’s raining out and everyone is starting to get antsy from being stuck inside.
