One of the most exciting aspects of traveling is eating whether it’s trying new foods or indulging in ones you love that are only available at the locale where you’re heading. As much fun as it is to dig into different foods, before you book your next set of travel arrangements, check out the following foods, beverages, and eateries you should avoid while you’re exploring the world.

New Foods While You’re in Transit
Let’s say you’re excited about trying a new food right before you’re getting on a plane or train or into a car for a little road trip. Sounds fun, right? It might not be. What if it upsets your stomach and you end up running to the bathroom…repeatedly. It might not be the most convenient situation. Just in case, stick to trying new foods when you know you’re going to be near your accommodations.

Ice and Water
Depending on where you go in the world, there is bacteria in tap water (as well as in ice) that could lead to certain conditions and illnesses. While water in some parts of the world is safer than in others, you may be better off sticking with bottled water while you’re traveling. This doesn’t just pertain to drinking it but also when you’re brushing your teeth, and when you’re showering, make sure not to swallow the water.

Raw Vegetables and Fruits
As delicious as those raw fruits and vegetables might look, you’re better off skipping them. Water is used to wash the fruits and vegetables, and considering the aforementioned paragraph, it’s something you want to avoid. It’s not worth taking the chance.

Eateries With a Negative Reputation
As tempting as it may be to try different eateries that you come across, you’ll want to research them first. This can give you an idea of how safe the restaurant is to eat at and whether or not it’s worth your money. Also, if the eatery has a surprisingly small amount of customers, you might want to take that as a warning sign. Check reviews online, especially ones that are the most recent, so you can get an idea of what you might be in for.

Restaurants That Aren’t Well-Kept
Does the restaurant look clean? Does the food look like it’s been sitting there awhile? Restaurants that are worth eating at are ones that take pride in staying clean and serving food that is safe, delicious, and presentable. If the restaurant you’re at doesn’t seem to fit the bill, you might want to go elsewhere.

Chances are you’re going to be tempted with various foods and beverages while you’re traveling, but just remember before you reach for your next morsel or drink, decide if you want to take the chance. As delectable as they might seem, it might not be worth your health. Taking precautions could certainly work out in your favor not just in terms of how delicious the food and drinks are, but also in regards to your safety.
