St. Augustine for A Day

St. Augustine

Florida is so lovely and offers so much to do that it can be difficult to narrow down where to go, especially if you only have a day to spend in each city. Who doesn’t love day trips?! St. Augustine in Florida is not only beautiful, but it has a plethora of different activities that you can do. It’s the oldest city in the United States and it was founded all the way back in 1565, so if you love history, this is certainly one city worth visiting. Even if you’re thinking of taking only a day trip, there is still so much you can see and do in a little amount of time. With that said, let’s talk about just some of the things you can do if you’re visiting St. Augustine for a day.

St. Augustine Pirate & Treasure Museum
Located on Castillo Drive, the St. Augustine Pirate & Treasure Museum gives you an incredibly educational (and fun!) experience where you can learn all about the history of piracy. The museum itself is about 5,000-square-feet and that doesn’t even count the size of the courtyard. There are tours, interactive exhibits, and more. Children 4 and younger receive free admission.

St. Augustine Distillery
Located on Riberia St in St. Augustine is the St. Augustine Distillery. Tours are every 30-minutes and they’re free. One of the best aspects of the business is that they use local ingredients in production. While you’re visiting, you’ll get to see some products being made, stop at the museum and retail store, and learn some history. They also have a tasting room so you can head over and enjoy some of their spirits. While they don’t serve food, there is a bar (Ice Plant Bar) in the same building that does.

Castillo de San Marcos

Castillo de San Marcos
Located right across the street from the St. Augustine Pirate & Treasure Museum is Castillo de San Marcos, so it’s quite convenient if you want to visit both, especially if you’re in St. Augustine only for a day. The 20.5-acre masonry fortress is the oldest in the United States. In 1672, it was started by the Spanish, and today it serves to educate all its visitors. There are demonstrations and more that will grab your interest right from the first moment.

The aforementioned is just the start of what you can experience when you visit St. Augustine in Florida. There are also tours that you can take throughout the city, numerous restaurants at which you can dine, and – of course – you can always head over to one of the beaches and walk along the shoreline, look for shells, do a little swimming, or just sit in the sand and read a book. Did we forget to mention the shopping? With so much to do, you’re going to want to come back time-and-time again to experience even more of what this fabulous city has to offer.
