Knowledge is beautiful, and intelligence can radiate from the inside-out. If you’re in San Diego, one of the best way to learn something new is to head over to the San Diego Museum of Art. Set in Balboa Park, it was founded in 1926 and has been delighting visitors ever since. Thinking of visiting? Take note of the following before planning your trip.

Culture and Cocktails
This series is a wonderful way to get to know others who are fascinated by art as much as you are. A DJ will be present as well as various cocktails, and, of course, beautiful works of art. These events are 21+ and tickets are required for entry. If you’re a non-member, tickets are $35 each, but members only have to pay $5.

Panama 66
Did you know that there’s a beer bar located in the San Diego Museum of Art? Panama 66 is set right in the May S. Marcy Sculpture Court. They’re open seven days a week and are open late (until 10 pm) every night except Monday when they’re open until 5 pm, so it’s a great place to go if you’re craving a late-night soup, sandwich, salad, beer, cocktail, or dessert. Dogs are allowed on the front patio, and if you have a membership card or you ride your bike, you can get 10-percent off.

Teen Art Cafe
The Teen Art Cafe at the San Diego Museum of Art is – as you can probably guess – just for teens. There are refreshments, performances, projects, and more. You can check out their calendar of events for more details.

Painting on Tap
Who doesn’t love a little beer and painting? The museum hosts “Painting on Tap” nights where you can drink San Diego craft beer, do an (after hours) exhibition tour, and do a project. Not a bad way to spend an evening at all. You can check out their schedule under the “Workshops” section of the site.

Music Performances
If you want to hear some breathtaking musical performances, you can certainly find them at the museum. There are various concerts that take place throughout the year, including the Crossing the Divide music series. Discounts are available. Obviously, the art is the star at the San Diego Museum of Art, but the aforementioned is just the beginning of what the museum has to offer.

Whether you want to dress up or go for a more casual look, go on your own, with family, friends, or on a date, you’ll love spending time taking in all the stunning art. The San Diego Museum of Art is open every day of the week except for Wednesday. Monday through Tuesday and Thursday through Saturday they’re open 10 am to 5 pm, and Sunday they’re open from noon to 5 pm. The galleries are open later during Art After Hours.

There are several types of discounts available, and on the third Tuesday of every month, residents in San Diego County are granted free admission. Sign up for the museum’s e-newsletter to stay up-to-date on all the latest happenings.
