Travel in the United States: Museums to Visit This Summer

There are a lot of benefits of going to the museum in the summer. It may not be as crowded as during the rest of the year, it’s a fantastic learning experience, and you could easily stay busy for an entire day without a second of boredom. You also get to be inside in the air conditioning which is especially beneficial if your air conditioning happens to go out at home. There are a variety of museums in the United States and they’re located from coast-to-coast. While we, unfortunately, can’t mention every city that has a wonderful museum, the following are just some of the many that have a plethora of museums worth checking out this summer.

Metropolitan Museum of Art

New York City
New York City is chock-full of incredible museums to visit, and thanks to the ample amount of public transportation, they’re easy to get to. Just some of the many you can visit include the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, American Museum of Natural History, Museum of Modern Art, National September 11 Memorial & Museum, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, and Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum.

Chicago
Going to the Windy City? You have plenty of wonderful museums you can visit. You could head over to the Adler Planetarium, Field Museum of Natural History, Museum of Contemporary Art, The Art Institute of Chicago, International Museum of Surgical Science, and National Museum of Mexican Art, and that’s just the start of what you have to look forward to.

Washington, D.C.
Let’s move on over to the nation’s capital—Washington, D.C.—where you undoubtedly have your pick of museums to visit. From the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and the Smithsonian American Art Museum to the National Museum of the American Indian and the National Museum of African American History and Culture, you’ll have so much to see and do during the duration of your trip. There are numerous other museums as well including the National Air and Space Museum, International Spy Museum, National Gallery of Art, Newseum, and more.

San Francisco
Now let’s cross the country to San Francisco where there are so many museums to wander through. Just some to consider putting on your itinerary include The Walt Disney Family Museum, Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, the Exploratorium, San Francisco Cable Car Museum, Legion of Honor, de Young, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Children’s Creativity Museum, Contemporary Jewish Museum, and Museum of the African Diaspora.

The aforementioned are just the beginning of the incredible museums that you can find in each of the four cities, so if you’re planning on taking a trip to one or all of the locations or one of the many other wonderful places in the United States, you certainly have a multitude of options for where you can go. The museums are phenomenal, and you’ll likely feel they were well-worth the visit. Many cities also offer discount cards or ticket packages to some tourist attractions in their respective areas, so consider looking into them to see if they might be right for you.
