Woman contemplates which painting to check out next at the art gallery.

If you’re hungry to satiate your desire for artistic wonders, these top art destinations in the US are more than likely to offer you extraordinary works of art that have been created by some of the greatest artists and sculptors of time. Vine Vera examines some of the best art destinations in the US in this article.

Washington D.C., Washington

One of the reasons why people adore Washington D.C. is its free and expansive art scene. Washington D.C. is an extremely beautiful city that offers any art lover with the perfect destination to check out breathtaking creations. One of the most iconic artistic landmarks in the city is the Smithsonian Institution. This institution alone offers admission to some of the best art galleries and museums in the US such as the Portrait Gallery, the Renwick Gallery, the Hirshhorn Museum, the Sculpture Gardens and the American Art Museum. Washington D.C. is also home to the National Gallery of Art, home to the only Leonardo da Vinci portrait (Ginerva de’ Benci) in the US.

Los Angeles, California

Los Angeles is often known to be one of the most eclectic and artistic cities in the US. Considered to be a melting pot of art, the city is just waiting to be explored by art lovers. The best part about Los Angeles is that it is not home to one Getty Museum. It is home to TWO Getty Museums. So if you’re not in the mood of exploring one, you can always choose the other. The Getty Villa offers you with breathtaking gardens while the Getty Center is home to an outstanding collection of American and European art. And both venues offer you with scintillating views of Los Angeles. Other art destinations in LA that are worth checking out include the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) and the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA).

New York City, New York

Art enthusiasts have only one thought when then travel to New York – they want to become a part of the unending action there. New York boasts featuring all sorts of art styles and it also presents a magnificent selection of visually provoking creations. The biggest star in NYC is the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This exciting museum is home to an outstanding Egyptian art collection and a number of works by European masters. The star attraction of the Met is the Temple of Dendur. The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is also located in New York. MoMA is home to one of the best art collections in the west and its star resident is “The Starry Night”, one of the most popular Van Gogh creations. Finally, the Storm King Art Center is also located at an hour’s drive from NYC. This 500-acre site features 100 majestic sculptures that are definitely worth a watch.

Utah

The Spiral Jetty in Utah is an earthwork sculpture that took about 6 days to construct in the year 1970. This unique structure has been created using earth, mud, salt crystals, water and basalt rocks by American artist Robert Smithson. Spiral Jetty is believed to be Smithson’s best piece of work and it remains to be one of the best features on the shores of the Great Salt Lake in Utah.

Amarillo, Texas

Amarillo is home to the Amarillo Ramp. Amarillo Ramp was Robert Smithson’s final creation. It consists of a 140 feet diameter circle of rock which rises to heights of 15 feet. Unfortunately, this unique creation is now eroding because of the artificial lake from which it was created.

Chicago, Illinois

Chicago is yet another exciting art destination in the US. The city is home to a number of unique exhibits and collections as well as some of the most famous art galleries in the US such as the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Art Institute of Chicago. Another destination worth checking out is Millennium Park. Millennium Park is the unofficial town square of Chicago and it is home to one of the best examples of public art. The best part about Chicago as an art lover’s paradise is that it is not only about its museums and art galleries. Every street and corner of the city is known to be full of unique works of art.
