Hofstra University Museum

Chances are you’ve heard of Hofstra University, but did you know that there’s a Hofstra University Museum? It’s located in Hempstead on Long Island in New York, and they feature more than 4,500 works of art from all over the world. It can be a great place to visit and can make for a wonderful day trip, and you’ll certainly be able to learn a lot during your time at the museum. Events
It seems as though there’s always a new event to look forward to at the Hofstra University Museum. For example, December’s event in 2016 was dubbed “Family Programming” and catered to those from ages 5 – 10 where they examined artwork that pertained to the landscape of Long Island and then did their own artwork. Prices are budget-friendly, so make sure to keep an eye on their calendar for future events.

Exhibitions
Seeing the exhibitions at the Hofstra University Museum can absolutely be worth the trip. For example, the “Danny Lyon: Memories of the Southern Civil Rights Movement” exhibit is running from January 31, 2017 until April 13, 2017, in the Emily Lowe Gallery, and “Converging Voices: Gender and Identity” is running from May 2, 2017, until December 15, 2017, also in the Emily Lowe Gallery. “Political Slant II: Editorial Cartoons” is running through March 12, 2017, at the David Filderman Gallery. Visiting the Hofstra University Museum
If you’re planning on visiting the Hofstra University Museum galleries while the school is on recess, you may have to wait as the galleries are closed while the school is on recess as well as on holidays and during installations. Both galleries are currently closed until January 2, 2017, and while the David Filderman Gallery will reopen on January 3, you’re going to have to hold off until January 31, 2017, for the Emily Lowe Gallery to reopen. Both galleries are located on the south campus. The hours are currently from noon to 4 pm on weekends, and Tuesday through Friday from 11 am to 4 pm; they’re closed on Mondays.
