Traveling to Tijuana, Mexico

If you’re thinking of traveling to Tijuana, Mexico, it’s going to require some effort and quite a bit of time, but the trip can definitely be worth it. There are several ways to get there, however, each is going to require careful planning and making sure you stock up on certain supplies – such as gas and snacks – to help make sure you’re prepared and comfortable for your trip. With that said, let’s discuss some ways to get to Tijuana, Mexico (and back) and make it as easy as possible.

Flying
Should you choose to fly to Tijuana, Mexico, you’re very likely going to have at least one stop to make if not more. For example, you might have to stop at Los Angeles International Airport or Mexico City International Airport. Prices vary significantly from the hundreds up to the thousands, and as far as the amount of time it takes to get there, it depends on where you’re flying in from. It may take around nine hours or it could take close to a full day if not longer.

Bus
Should you want to take the bus to Tijuana, Mexico, your best bet is to head to Los Angeles where it could take around 4-hours or so in between points. The cost is usually minimal, typically less than $30, and you may even be able to check your bag for free. The buses leave at a variety of times during the day so you can pick the option that’s most convenient to you.

Tour Bus
Taking a tour bus to Tijuana, Mexico is another option to consider. One option is to leave from San Diego, and along the way, you’ll get to tour some well-known spots in Tijuana and you may even be able to try out some delicious food. It’s a great chance to learn about the city itself. Prices vary for the tours, so just make sure to do your research on the tour company before you book your trip.

Driving
Should you decide you want to take the trip yourself, you could drive there in either your own car or a rented vehicle. The trip typically doesn’t take long if you’re driving from California, just make sure you take a paper map with you just in case your GPS doesn’t work properly and you’re not familiar with the route. If you’re driving, you’ll also want to make sure that you have a full tank of gas to last you through the return trip.

There are a few things to note about traveling to and from Tijuana, Mexico. First, you’re going to need the proper identification, such as an updated passport. Also, the wait at the border crossing is typically 1- to 2-hours, so you’re going to have to be prepared for that as well such as getting enough gas and having snacks and water on hand in case you get hungry and thirsty.
