Dubai, UAE
From the tallest building in the world to an indoor ski-slope right in the middle of the desert, from man-made islands to underwater hotels, Dubai is a city that simply loves to defy the laws of nature. It is home to some of the most forward-thinking ideas on the planet and is the best place to see architecture that wows. Over the past few decades, Dubai has entirely focused its energies on things like the largest, biggest, tallest and the best, and some of its upcoming projects such as a climate-controlled indoor city are expected to be just as amazing!

Songdo, South Korea
Songdo is literally being built on a patch of sand close to Seoul, and it promises to emerge as the true definition of a “smart city”, once it’s finally complete in the year 2015. From a humongous park right in the midst of the city that offsets emissions to household appliances that can be controlled by Smartphones, from kitchen waste directly reaching waste-processing centers through a network of underground tunnels to microchip-tracking systems that lets parents keep a track of their kid’s whereabouts, Songdo is exactly how futuristic living will look like in the coming decade. And considering that 40% of the land is reserved for green space, there isn’t any shortage of greenery either!

Amsterdam, Netherlands
Amsterdam often comes in the news for all the wrong reasons because of its lax laws, but look beyond the obvious, and you’ll realize just how amazing Amsterdam truly is. To overcome its space shortage issues, the city recently came up with a novel idea and created the first floating neighborhood in the world. Almost 1000 of its locals now call this neighborhood their home, with more such projects scheduled to crop up in the future. And then there are always those unique programs such as Bike Like a Local navigation systems and Appening Amsterdam apps to look forward to.

Masdar, Abu Dhabi
Masdar is an eco-city, currently being built right outside Abu Dhabi, that is expected to become a hub for clean-tech companies. The city shall rely on renewable and solar energy sources, which would make the entire city carbon neutral. The buildings here are being shaped to ensure that they draw the air down into the city in order to cool the area, and the streets are designed to be friendly for cyclists and pedestrians. Public transport will come from electric navigational systems and driver-less car pods.
