Best Cities to Celebrate Thanksgiving

We all know the usual thanksgiving routine. The whole extended family gathers in one family member or others’ home, everybody brings great food, gives thanks for what they’re grateful for, and enjoys a feast together with loved ones.

That’s all well and good, and there’s nothing wrong with that tradition; in fact, it’s really quite nice, and we certainly recommend going for it if you want the traditional thanksgiving. That said, though, one does undoubtedly tire from repetition eventually, and if you’ve seen one too many typical thanksgiving feasts, you might want to consider booking some very last-minute travel plans and heading to one of these great cities to celebrate thanksgiving.

New York, New York
The big apple just so happens to have a wealth of excellent restaurants to eat a delightful thanksgiving dinner at, from classic turkey dinner with all the fixings, to inventive spins on the norm, and everything in between. Not only that, but the city features a huge Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade that’s no doubt tons of fun to be in.

And Black Friday, the day after? There’s really no better place to be on that day than New York City. Consider how many incredible shopping opportunities exist in this huge metropolis, and how many absolutely ludicrous sales all of them will be having all at once, and it should be clear NY City is the place to be in black Friday.

Sanibel Island.

But what if you don’t really want anything even remotely like a thanksgiving dinner? Well, why not use the long weekend as a chance to escape the bitter chill of the encroaching winter and take a warm mini-vacation in Florida? Rent a Beachfront home in Sanibel Island, and prepare for an incredibly relaxing thanksgiving weekend.

St. Augustine.

St. Augustine, Florida
Florida, in general, is just a great state to take a mini-vacation to on Thanksgiving when you’re tired of the usual fare. As such, we’d be remiss to only include the one entry on this list.

Come to St. Augustine for a relaxing, sunny vacation where you can take a leisurely stroll through historic streets, pamper yourself in a spa, and drift off to sleep in a luxurious upscale hotel room.

Tanawha trail, Blue Ridge Mountains.

Blue Ridge Mountains, Virginia
Want to really get away from it all this thanksgiving, but still have the traditional family feast? Head to the Blue Ridge Mountains and rent a vacation home with a full kitchen. Enjoy a home-cooked thanksgiving feast in the solace of a remote mountain getaway.
