Family-Friendly Activities in Niagara Falls, New York

If you’re thinking of heading up to Niagara Falls, New York, it’s sure to make a wonderful trip. Whether you’re going for a day or two or you’re making it an extended vacation, there’s plenty to see and do with your family. It’s an area that those of all ages will enjoy, especially those who love getting out in nature and exploring all its beauty. Before you start planning out your itinerary, check out some of the following ideas for family-friendly activities that you can do in Niagara Falls.

Family at aquarium

Visit the Aquarium of Niagara
Located on Whirlpool Street, the Aquarium of Niagara is a wonderful place for families to visit. They opened in 1965 and were founded by chemists and scientists. Today the aquarium features numerous animals including Humboldt Penguins and many rescued animals. Parking is free, and the aquarium is open at 9am with the last admission at 4:30pm.

See the Fireworks
The actual falls are already lovely enough in the daytime, but seeing them at night while they’re illuminated is a whole different experience and one you’ll definitely want to be a part of. The falls are typically lit up every evening according to the schedule (which could change from one week to the next, so make sure to review it carefully). If you happen to go on a weekday from June until September, you’ll also see fireworks starting at 10pm. It’s an event you don’t want to miss. Check the schedule to see if both are going to be happening on the day(s) you’re planning on being there.

Niagara Falls

Spend time in Niagara Falls State Park
Niagara Falls State Park features—you guessed it—the beautiful falls. However, you can also grab a bite to eat, go for a hike or a leisurely stroll, buy souvenirs, and even take a Trolley tour. You can bring your four-legged family member as well, but they do have to be on a leash at all times. It’s easy to spend an entire day here without a second of boredom.

Dine with a View
There are numerous places in and around Niagara Falls, New York where you can have great food with a beautiful view of the falls. It could very well be worth it for the experience alone. Take note, however, that it might be an expensive meal. Often when there’s a spectacular view involved with the meal, the cost of that meal may be on the high side.

Keep in mind when you’re planning your trip to Niagara Falls, New York that there’s also the Niagara Falls in Ontario, Canada. Although they are a close drive to each other and both are well-worth the visit, you don’t want to make a list of activities and believe them all to be in one location and come to find that they’re scattered between the two different cities (unless you want to visit both places, of course). Also, don’t forget to check the weather when you’re planning your trip. Certain times of the year can be harsher weather-wise than others.
