Glamping in NYC
Glamping has become extremely popular, especially for those who have always wanted to give standard camping a try but weren’t a fan of going without certain comforts of home. If you’re in New York City, you may love all that it has to offer, but every once in awhile, it’s nice to take a break – even if it’s just for a weekend trip – and get out in the fresh air and nature. Need some glamping ideas for where to go that aren’t far from the city? Check out the following three that may be good options for you.
Firelight Camps
Located in Ithaca, New York on the grounds of La Tourelle Resort and Spa is Firelight Camps where you’ll be sleeping in tents, but these are far from the tents you’re used to. They feature hardwood floors, a private balcony, a queen or king bed, and more. You’ll also have access to homemade s’mores, a complimentary continental breakfast as well as a happy hour tasting, a campfire, and then some. There is a bath house that features modern amenities such as hot water. Dogs are allowed, so feel free to bring your favorite four-legged companion, but there is an extra fee you’ll have to pay.
W New York Hotel
Wait, glamping in the middle of NYC? On Lexington Avenue? Absolutely if you head over to the W New York Hotel and their “Extreme Wow Suite.” It’s an especially good option if you can’t get out of town for the weekend. The glamping experience here is a little different than what you may be thinking of. This special hotel experience mixes outdoor with indoor luxury. The one-bedroom suite offers a revamped outdoor terrace that features a yurt, hanging lights, a lounge area, and even a fire pit. Considering the experience is on the 17th floor, the views are exquisite.
Posh Primitive
At Posh Primitive in Chestertown, New York, guests stay in “log-embellished canvas wall tents” right in the southern Adirondack mountains. You can cook on a wood stove (or eat in the dining lodge), curl up in wool blankets, or sit outside and enjoy the view from comfortable chairs. There is a bath house that you can use when you want to clean up. Nearby you can partake in a whole slew of outdoor activities ranging from fishing and white water rafting to zip-lining and caving. Dogs are allowed at Posh Primitive.
While the W New York Hotel is easy to get to if you want to go glamping right in New York City, you’ll find it advantageous to rent a car if you’re planning on going to Posh Primitive or Firelight Camps. You’ll be able to get around much more easily and do any activities that you want to do in the area as well as do some exploring.
Don’t forget to read all the fine print so you know exactly what you’re getting for your money, if there may be any extra charges involved, etc. If you have any questions, make sure you ask before booking your reservations so everything is all set ahead of time.
